Sweet Tea and Cupcakes Mini-Kit Freebie!!!!

Well, here we are again! It has been a CRAZY week! This week's mission was to create a color palette from two colors, and then create a mini kit with no Commercial Use items. Most digital scrapbook papers are made by making a pattern and then adding an overlay to add some texture. Well, when I am designing, I tend to turn to these tools WAY too much! So this week was a real challenge!

I spent the first couple of days figuring out what I wanted my theme and color palette to be. And then I had to figure out how to make my designs look real without relying on CU items. So I went on a search in my house for things I could use for texture on my papers. I tried cloth, cardstock, blankets... you name it I probably tried it! Well, some of my experiments were complete flops, but I was able to make a few textured overlays! Yay! It was a difficult week, but I feel like I learned SO much about design... which is exactly why I am in this contest!

So anyway, you probably don't need to hear about all of my creative adventures, so on to what you really want to see!

The inspiration for this kit came from my love of all things Tea! I have a collection of teapots, and have a cup of hot tea more than occasionally. It is a tradition in our house to have a tea party for almost any special occasion, even when that occasion is just Tuesday! I hear "Mommy, can we have a tea party?" several days a week... and I thought it was fitting to make a kit to commemorate those special moments.

When I figured out what my theme was, I started thinking about what colors would work best for my theme and this is what I came up with:

Designer Darling Contest

Well, it's been such a long time since I've updated my blog, you might have thought I fell off the face of the earth. Not so, but it's been a crazy busy month! The day after Christmas, my family and I left to go south, and did a whirlwind road trip starting in Williamsburg, VA and ending in Orlando, Florida that lasted over two weeks! I have over 1200 pictures to sort through and scrap! Looks like I have my work cut out for me! LOL.

Well, I have signed up for a designer contest, and I am a little nervous, but my goal for this contest is not necessarily to win, but my goal is to learn as much as I can about designing!

So we were given a color pallette and a few simple instructions and we had to choose a theme ourselves. So I actually started designing before I had a theme, and I really wanted to add some birds. And it seemed that whole time I was designing the verses in Luke 12 kept going through my head, about how much more important we are to God than the sparrows of the air and the flowers of the field. So hence the title of my kit! I hope that while you are scrapping with this kit, you remember how much God loves you!

So here is my first week's submission and a freebie just for you!

Go to Stuff to Scrap to download this part! The download links are in the credits section of the gallery.

And while you're there, please leave me a comment if you like the mini-kit, and check out all of the other designers' submissions. There are so many great kits, and even more to come!

So now for the moment you've all been waiting for!! Dun, dun, DUH! The freebie add-on for this kit!!

Download here or here.
Enjoy! And please leave me a comment if you like the kit! Happy Scrapping!

Christmas Countdown Advent Calendar Freebie!

Hey everyone! Hope you had a great holiday weekend! I have been without internet for a while because something was wrong with it and they couldn't get out here for over a week! I almost died from withdrawal! LOL.

Today, I want to show you my latest hybrid project. It's funny because when you say hybrid, some people cringe and squeak, thinking it will be a long drawn out affair. But actually anything that uses digital products that are printed out to create something tangible could be considered hybrid. So this is a really simple project!

A couple of years ago, I bought a wooden advent calendar at Target, and last year I just put little slips of paper in each door, with an activity to do together as a family. Well, this year I decided to get crafty and make envelopes and cards to put the activities on, and I'm hoping that we can just use it again and again.

I used this beautiful kit from Jen C Designs to design the cards and envelopes and she has kindly agreed that I can share them with you! Be sure and check out her blog for more fun freebies, including a free download a day!

Here are the printables. Click on the caption under the preview to download. (For some reason, it isn't downloading when you click on the preview.) Just download and print on 8.5x11 paper or cardstock. The cards are blank, so you can add your own activities, using your photo editing software, or you can print them blank and just write the activities on them! Fold the envelopes and voila! you have a cute advent calendar.

You could easily make a paper calendar to put them in, or string mismatched socks on a pretty ribbon. I have put some links for some really cute ideas to use each day. Making wonderful Christmas memories doesn't have to cost alot... it's being together that counts! So have fun, and Merry Christmas!!!

DSDI Thanksgiving Blog Train!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope everyone has a wonderful day filled with thankfulness! God has been so good to me and my family this year, and I definitely want to express my gratitude!

After all the festivities are done, traditionally in the US, many people gear up to go shopping for the biggest shopping day of the year! And I am no exception... Yes I might be crazy to get out there with all of the crowds, but its a tradition with my husband and I to go out and shop on Black Friday. I am really looking forward to time with my hubby, who works long hours and I don't get to hang out with him often enough.

Well, we have some goodies for you today, from all of the girls at DSDI... each of us have made a beautiful quick page with the stunning collab "Retail Therapy" from the designers at DSDI... which is absolutely fitting for this time of year! Whether you get out Friday with all of the crowds, or you stay home and shop online, or maybe you are already finished with your Christmas Shopping, these pages will make keeping the memories easy!
